We created man from sounding clay, from mud moulded into shape; 26 And created the jinn before him, from smokeless fire. 27 And when thy Lord said to the angels, 'See, I am creating a mortal of a clay of mud moulded. 28 “Therefore when I have properly fashioned him and breathed into him a chosen noble soul from Myself, fall down before him in prostration.” 29 Thereupon the angels prostrated themselves, all of them together, 30 Except Iblis (Satan); he refused to be among those who prostrated. 31 Said He, 'What ails thee, Iblis, that thou art not among those bowing?' 32 Iblis replied, "I did not want to prostrate before a human being whom You have created out of mud-moulded clay". 33 (Allah) said: "Then, get out from here, for verily, you are Rajim (an outcast or a cursed one)." [Tafsir At-Tabari] 34 and there shall be a curse upon you till the Day of Recompense." 35 He said: my Lord! respite me then till the Day whereon they will be raised up. 36 He answered: 'You are among those reprieved 37 Till the period of the time made known. 38 He said: My Lord! because Thou hast made life evil to me, I will certainly make (evil) fair-seeming to them on earth, and I will certainly cause them all to deviate 39 Except the chosen ones among Your creatures." 40 He (Allah) said: 'This is for Me the Right Path 41 No power shall you have over (all) My creatures except those who fall into error and follow you, 42 And indeed hell is the promise for all of them. 43 Unto it are seven portals; unto each portal is a portion of them assigned. 44
