We created man from sounding clay, from mud moulded into shape; 26 and before him We created the jinn from smokeless fire. 27 And lo! Thy Sustainer said unto the angels: "Behold, I am about to create mortal man out of sounding clay, out of dark slime transmuted; 28 "So, when I have fashioned him completely and breathed into him (Adam) the soul which I created for him, then fall (you) down prostrating yourselves unto him." 29 then the angels all prostrated themselves together. 30 save Iblis: he refused to be among those who prostrated themselves. 31 The Lord inquired: "Iblis! What is the matter with you that you did not join those who prostrated?" 32 [Iblis (Satan)] said: "I am not the one to prostrate myself to a human being, whom You created from sounding clay of altered black smooth mud." 33 [Allah] said, "Then get out of it, for indeed, you are expelled. 34 Upon thee shall rest the curse, till the Day of Doom.' 35 Iblis said: "My Lord! Grant me respite till the Day when they will be resurrected." 36 He said, "You are granted respite 37 until the day of a known time." 38 (Iblis) said: "O my Lord! because Thou hast put me in the wrong, I will make (wrong) fair-seeming to them on the earth, and I will put them all in the wrong,- 39 except Your sincere servants". 40 God said, "The path which leads to Me is a straight 41 over My servants thou shalt have no authority, except those that follow thee, 42 Gehenna (Hell) will be the promise for all of them. 43 There are seven gates in it, and to each gate a portion of them has been allotted. 44
