Man We fashioned from fermented clay dried tingling hard, 26 whereas the invisible beings We had created, [long] before that, out of the fire of scorching winds. 27 When your Lord said to the angels: 'See, I am creating a mortal from clay of molded mud. 28 When I have completed shaping him and have breathed into him of My Spirit, then fall you down before him in prostration." 29 All the angels prostrated themselves, 30 Except Iblees, he refused to be with those who prostrated. 31 (Allah) said: "O Iblis! what is your reason for not being among those who prostrated themselves?" 32 He said: I am not one to prostrate myself unto a mortal whom Thou hast created out of potter's clay of black mud altered! 33 Said He, 'Then go thou forth hence; thou art accursed. 34 "And verily, the curse shall be upon you till the Day of Recompense (i.e. the Day of Resurrection)." 35 Iblis prayed, "Lord, grant me respite until the Day of Judgment". 36 Said Allah, “You are of those given respite.” 37 "Till the Day of the Time appointed." 38 [Whereupon Iblis] said: "O my Sustainer! Since Thou hast thwarted me, I shall indeed make [all that is evil] on earth seem goodly to them, and shall most certainly beguile them - into grievous error 39 except those of Your servants whom You have singled out for Yourself." 40 (Allah) said: "This is the Way which will lead straight to Me." 41 verily, thou shalt have no power over My creatures - unless it be such as are [already] lost in grievous error and follow thee [of their own will]: 42 And verily, Hell is the promised abode for them all! 43 To it are seven gates: for each of those gates is a (special) class (of sinners) assigned. 44
