Al-Hijjr 3 of 6
Indeed We created man from sounding clay made out of black smelly mud. 26 And the jinn, We created aforetime from the smokeless flame of fire. 27 And (remember) when your Lord said to the angels: "I am going to create a man (Adam) from sounding clay of altered black smooth mud. 28 “Therefore when I have properly fashioned him and breathed into him a chosen noble soul from Myself, fall down before him in prostration.” 29 So the angels made obeisance, all of them together, 30 except iblis (father of the jinn) who refused to be one of those who prostrated themselves. 31 The Lord inquired: "Iblis! What is the matter with you that you did not join those who prostrated?" 32 He said, "Never would I prostrate to a human whom You created out of clay from an altered black mud." 33 Said Allah, “Therefore exit from Paradise, for you are an outcast.” 34 "And verily, the curse shall be upon you till the Day of Recompense (i.e. the Day of Resurrection)." 35 Satan said, "O my Lord! Grant me respite till the Day of Resurrection." 36 Said Allah, “You are of those given respite.” 37 "Till the Day of the Time appointed." 38 [Whereupon Iblis] said: "O my Sustainer! Since Thou hast thwarted me, I shall indeed make [all that is evil] on earth seem goodly to them, and shall most certainly beguile them - into grievous error 39 Except the chosen ones among Your creatures." 40 He said: This is a right way with Me: 41 “Indeed you do not have any power over My bondmen, except those wanderers who follow you.” (The devil is unsuccessful in tempting Allah’s chosen bondmen to commit sin.) 42 Surely, Hell is the place to which they are destined, 43 Unto it are seven portals; unto each portal is a portion of them assigned. 44

How does the memorization exercise algorithm work? At the lowest level 0, all words are visible. While the highest level 9 hides all words. What about at mid-level, like 3, for example? You might think that the algorithm hides precisely 3 out of every nine words. Not quite! At level 3, each word has a 3 out of 9 chance to hide, and 6 out of 9 to be visible. In other words, it is possible, but highly unlikely, for all words at level 3 to be hidden, or, that all of them to be visible! Also, at mid-levels, and in proportion to the difficulty level, hideouts can be partially incomplete or transparent so that words may be partially visible underneath.
