AND WHEN the messengers [of God] came to the house of Lot, 61 he said, "You are strangers [to me]." 62 They said: "Nay, we have brought to you that concerning which they have been in doubt. 63 and we have come to you with the truth, and surely we are truthful, 64 So set forth, thou with thy family, in a watch of the night, and follow after the backs of them, and let not any one of you turn round; and depart unto the place you are commanded.' 65 And [through Our messengers] We revealed unto him this decree: "The last remnant of those [sinners] shall be wiped out in the morn." 66 The inhabitants of the city came in (mad) joy (at news of the young men). 67 [Lout (Lot)] said: "Verily! these are my guests, so shame me not. 68 and fear God, and do not degrade me.' 69 They said: forbade we not thee against the worlds? 70 Lot exclaimed in exasperation: "If you are bent on doing something, then here are my daughters." 71 By thy life, they wandered blindly in their dazzlement, 72 Then the mighty Blast caught them at sunrise, 73 And We utterly confounded them, and We rained upon them stones of heated clay. 74 There are great Signs in this for those endowed with intelligence. 75 surely it is on a way yet remaining; 76 Verily, herein lies a message indeed for all who believe [in God]. 77 And the dwellers of the wood surely were wrong-doers. 78 So We inflicted retribution on them, and they are both, indeed, on an open road (still) pursued. 79
