Al-Hijjr 5 of 6
So when the envoys came to the household of Lot, 61 He said: verily ye are a people stranger. 62 They said: Nay, but we bring thee that concerning which they keep disputing, 63 We have come to you for a genuine purpose and We are true in what we say. 64 Go, then, with thy household while it is yet night, with thyself following them in the rear; and let none of you look back, but proceed whither you are bidden." 65 And We conveyed to him [the decree] of that matter: that those [sinners] would be eliminated by early morning. 66 And the people of the city came [unto Lot,] rejoicing at the glad tiding. 67 He said: 'These are my guests; do not shame me. 68 and fear God, and do not degrade me.' 69 "Did we not restrain you," they said, "from (entertaining) creatures from the outside world?" 70 He said, 'These are my daughters, if you would be doing.' 71 Verily, by thy life (O Prophet), in their wild intoxication, they wander in distraction, to and fro. 72 Therefore the scream overcame them at sunrise. 73 and We turned it uppermost nethermost and rained on it stones of baked clay. 74 Surely! In this are signs, for those who see (or understand or learn the lessons from the Signs of Allah). 75 surely it is on a way yet remaining; 76 Indeed in this are signs for the believers. 77 And the dwellers of the wood surely were wrong-doers. 78 So, We took vengeance on them. They are both on an open highway, plain to see. 79

How does the memorization exercise algorithm work? At the lowest level 0, all words are visible. While the highest level 9 hides all words. What about at mid-level, like 3, for example? You might think that the algorithm hides precisely 3 out of every nine words. Not quite! At level 3, each word has a 3 out of 9 chance to hide, and 6 out of 9 to be visible. In other words, it is possible, but highly unlikely, for all words at level 3 to be hidden, or, that all of them to be visible! Also, at mid-levels, and in proportion to the difficulty level, hideouts can be partially incomplete or transparent so that words may be partially visible underneath.
