And when the messengers came to the family of Lot, 61 he said to them: 'I do not know you' 62 They said: Nay, we have come to you with that about which they disputed. 63 We truly tell you that we have brought to you the Truth. 64 So travel with thy household in a portion of the night, and follow thou their backs. Let none of you turn round, but go whither ye are commanded. 65 And We made plain the case to him, that the root of them (who did wrong) was to be cut at early morn. 66 The people of the town came along, revelling, 67 [Lot] said, "Indeed, these are my guests, so do not shame me. 68 And fear Allah, and humiliate me not. 69 They said: forbade we not thee against the worlds? 70 He said, “These women of our tribe are my daughters, if you have to.” 71 [But the angels spoke thus:] "As thou livest, [O Lot, they will not listen to thee:] behold, in their delirium [of lust] they are but blindly stumbling to and fro!" 72 But the (mighty) Blast overtook them before morning, 73 And We made the highest part [of the city] its lowest and rained upon them stones of hard clay. 74 Verily therein are signs for men of sagacity. 75 And verily! They (the cities) were right on the highroad (from Makkah to Syria i.e. the place where the Dead Sea is now). 76 Behold! in this is a sign for those who believed. 77 Certainly the dwellers in the Thicket were evildoers, 78 So We chastised them. The desolate locations of both communities lie on a well-known highway. 79
