At length when the messengers arrived among the adherents of Lut, 61 he said: "Behold, you are people unknown [here]!" 62 They said, "No, but we bring you news about what they disputed, 63 And we have come to you with truth, and indeed, we are truthful. 64 Leave the town with your family sometime during the night. Walk behind them and let no one turn around. Proceed as you are commanded." 65 And We informed him the decision of this command, that at morning the root of the disbelievers would be cut off. 66 The inhabitants of the city came in (mad) joy (at news of the young men). 67 He said: Surely these are my guests, therefore do not disgrace me, 68 “And fear Allah and do not disgrace me.” 69 They replied: "Did we not forbid you again and again to extend hospitality to all and sundry?" 70 He said: these are my daughters, if act ye must. 71 By your life, they wandered on in their wild intoxication 72 and thereupon the blast [of Our punishment] overtook them at sunrise. 73 Thus did We turn it upside down, and rained down upon them stones of what had been decreed. 74 There are certainly signs in that for those who can learn a lesson -- 75 And verily! They (the cities) were right on the highroad (from Makkah to Syria i.e. the place where the Dead Sea is now). 76 Behold! in this is a sign for those who believed. 77 The dwellers of the Thicket were harmdoers. 78 So We punished them too. They are both situated by the highway, clearly visible. 79
