The prayer that man should make for good, he maketh for evil; for man is given to hasty (deeds). 11 We have appointed the night and the day as two signs; then We have blotted out the sign of the night, and made the sign of the day to see, and that you may seek bounty from your Lord, and that you may know the number of the years, and the reckoning; and everything We have distinguished very distinctly. 12 And We have made every man's actions to cling to his neck, and We will bring forth to him on the resurrection day a book which he will find wide open: 13 (And it will be said unto him): Read thy Book. Thy soul sufficeth as reckoner against thee this day. 14 Whoever goes aright, for his own soul does he go aright; and whoever goes astray, to its detriment only does he go astray: nor can the bearer of a burden bear the burden of another, nor do We chastise until We raise an apostle. 15 When We desire to annihilate a village, We command those who live in ease, but they commit evil therein, then the Word is realized against it and it is utterly annihilated. 16 And how many generations have We destroyed after Nuh (Noah)! And Sufficient is your Lord as an All-Knower and All-Beholder of the sins of His slaves. 17 Whoever wishes for the quick-passing (transitory enjoyment of this world), We readily grant him what We will for whom We like. Then, afterwards, We have appointed for him Hell, he will burn therein disgraced and rejected, (far away from Allah's Mercy). 18 And whosoever desires the world to come and strives after it as he should, being a believer -- those, their striving shall be thanked. 19 Of the bounties of thy Lord We bestow freely on all- These as well as those: The bounties of thy Lord are not closed (to anyone). 20 See how We prefer one of them above another, and verily the Hereafter will be greater in degrees and greater in preferment. 21 Set not up with Allah any other god (O man) lest thou sit down reproved, forsaken. 22
