۞ Your Lord has commanded that you should worship none but Him, and show kindness to your parents. If either or both of them attain old age with you, say no word of contempt to them and do not rebuke them, but always speak gently to them 23 Be humble and merciful towards them and say, "Lord, have mercy upon them as they cherished me in my childhood." 24 Your Lord knows very well what is in your hearts if you are righteous, for He is All-forgiving to those who are penitent. 25 And give the relative his right, and [also] the poor and the traveler, and do not spend wastefully. 26 Indeed those who needlessly waste are brothers of the devils; and the devil is very ungrateful to his Lord. 27 If you neglect (your parents) while seeking the bounty of your Lord, of which you are hopeful, speak to them softly. 28 Do not be niggardly, nor extravagant that you may later feel reprehensive and constrained. 29 Verily thy Lord doth provide sustenance in abundance for whom He pleaseth, and He provideth in a just measure. For He doth know and regard all His servants. 30
