The Cave (Al-Kahf)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
Praise be to God who has sent down to His servant -- the Book, which is free from any ambiguity 1 and which rightly directs, to give warning of stern punishment from Him, and to proclaim to the believers who do righteous deeds that they shall have an excellent recompense, 2 Wherein they shall remain for ever: 3 And that it may warn those who say: "God has begotten a son." 4 No knowledge have they of such a thing, nor had their fathers. Mighty is the word that comes out of their mouths [i.e. He begot (took) sons and daughters]. They utter nothing but a lie. 5 Then maybe you will kill yourself with grief, sorrowing after them, if they do not believe in this announcement. 6 Surely We have made whatever is on the earth an embellishment for it, so that We may try them (as to) which of them is best in works. 7 but We shall reduce all this to barren waste. 8 Did you know that the People of the Cave and People close to the Woods, were Our exceptional signs? 9 When those young men took shelter in the cave, and prayed: "O Lord, grant us Your favour and dispose our affair aright," 10 We lulled them to sleep in that cave for a number of years 11 Then We woke them up again so that We might see which of the two groups would better calculate the time they had stayed there. 12
