They ask thee concerning Zul-qarnain. Say, "I will rehearse to you something of his story." 83 We established him in the land and gave him means to all things. 84 So he followed a certain road 85 To the extent that when he reached the setting-place of the sun, he found it setting in a muddy spring, and found a nation there; We said, “O Zul-Qarnain – either punish them or choose kindness for them.” 86 He said: "We will chastise him who does wrong, whereafter he will be returned to his Lord and He will chastise him grievously. 87 But as for him who believes and acts righteously, his will be a goodly reward and we shall enjoin upon him only mild commands." 88 And once again he chose the right means [to achieve a right end]. 89 until he came to the rising-place of the sun, where he found it rising on a people for whom We had provided no shelter from it. 90 It was so, for We were fully informed about him. 91 He travelled 92 Until, when he came between two mountains, he found before them a nation that did not appear to understand any speech. 93 They said, "O Dhul-Qarnayn, indeed Gog and Magog are [great] corrupters in the land. So may we assign for you an expenditure that you might make between us and them a barrier?" 94 He replied: 'That which my Lord has given me is better, therefore help me with all your power, and I will build a barrier between you and between them. 95 Give me pieces of iron - till, when he had levelled up (the gap) between the cliffs, he said: Blow! - till, when he had made it a fire, he said: Bring me molten copper to pour thereon. 96 And (Gog and Magog) were not able to surmount, nor could they pierce (it). 97 He said: "This is a mercy from my Lord: But when the promise of my Lord comes to pass, He will make it into dust; and the promise of my Lord is true." 98 ۞ And We will leave them that day surging over each other, and [then] the Horn will be blown, and We will assemble them in [one] assembly. 99 And on that Day We shall present Hell to the disbelievers, plain to view, 100 whose eyes were blinded to My remembrance and they were not able to hear. 101
