(Muhammad), they will ask you about Dhu 'l-Qarnayn. Say, "I shall tell you something about him". 83 Behold, We established him securely on earth, and endowed him with [the knowledge of] the right means to achieve anything [that he might set out to achieve]; 84 Then he followed a way. 85 to the West where he found the sun setting into a warm source (spring) of water and a people living near by. We asked him, "Dhu 'l-Qarnayn, you may punish them or treat them with kindness?" 86 He said, 'As for the evildoer, him we shall chastise, then he shall be returned to his Lord and He shall chastise him with a horrible chastisement. 87 but whoever believes and does good works shall have a good reward and We shall facilitate his matter by Our command." 88 Then he followed yet another path, 89 until he reached the limit where the sun rises and he found it rising on a people whom We had provided no shelter from it. 90 So, We encompassed in knowledge what was with him. 91 And once again he chose the right means [to achieve a right end]. 92 Until, when he came between two mountains, he found before them a nation that did not appear to understand any speech. 93 They said: O Zul-Qarnain verily Yajuj and Majuj are working corruption in the land; shall we then pay thee tribute on condition that thou place between us and them a barrier! 94 He said: "The ability my Lord has given me is better. So help me with your manual labour; I will build a wall between you and them. 95 bring me blocks of iron." Then, when he had filled the gap between the mountain sides [he said], "Now blow on the fire with your bellows." When the iron blocks were red with heat, he said, "Bring me molten brass to pour on them." 96 So they [Gog and Magog] were not able to scale it, nor were they able to bore through it, 97 "This is the benevolence of my Lord," he said; "but when the promise of my Lord comes to pass, He will reduce it to a mound of dust; and the promise of my Lord is true." 98 ۞ On that day, We will let them surge on one another, and the Horn shall be blown, and We will gather them all together. 99 And We shall present Hell that day for Unbelievers to see, all spread out,- 100 those whose eyes had been veiled against any remembrance of Me because they could not bear to listen [to the voice of truth]! 101
