Mary (Maryam)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
Kaf-Ha-Ya-A’in-Sad. (* Alphabets of the Arabic language – Allah and to whomever He reveals know their precise meanings.) 1 A mention of the Mercy of your Lord to his worshiper Zachariah, 2 When he called upon his Lord in a low voice, 3 Praying: "O my Lord! infirm indeed are my bones, and the hair of my head doth glisten with grey: but never am I unblest, O my Lord, in my prayer to Thee! 4 "Now I fear (what) my relatives (and colleagues) (will do) after me: but my wife is barren: so give me an heir as from Thyself,- 5 who shall be my inheritor and the inheritor of the House of Jacob; and make him, my Lord, well-pleasing.' 6 (His prayer was answered): "O Zakariya! We give thee good news of a son: His name shall be Yahya: on none by that name have We conferred distinction before." 7 He said: "My Lord! How can I have a son, when my wife is barren, and I have reached the extreme old age." 8 He said, "It will be so! Your Lord says, 'It is easy for Me for I created you when you were nothing before.'" 9 He said: "O Lord, give me a token." "Though sound," He answered, "you will not talk to any one for three nights running." 10 So he came out to his people from the prayer chamber and signaled to them to exalt [Allah] in the morning and afternoon. 11 O Yahya! hold fast the book. And We vouchsafed unto him wisdom, while yet a child. 12 and tenderness [of heart] and purity. He was pious, 13 And kind to his parents, neither arrogant nor disobedient. 14 Peace be on him on the day of his birth, and on the day of his death, and peace will be on him on the day he is raised up to life again. 15
