Mary (Maryam)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
Kaf Ha Ya Ain Suad. 1 (This is) a mention of the mercy of your Lord to His slave Zakariya (Zachariah). 2 When he called to his Lord inwardly, 3 And said: "O my Lord, my bones decay, my head is white and hoary, yet in calling You, O Lord, I have never been deprived. 4 I fear evil from my kinsmen after I am gone; and my wife is barren, so grant me an heir out of Your special grace, 5 Who should inherit me and inherit from the children of Yaqoub, and make him, my Lord, one in whom Thou art well pleased. 6 We answered his prayers with the glad news of the birth of a son by the name of John and told him, "We have never given such a name to anyone else." 7 "My Lord!" [said Zachariah], "How shall I have a son when my wife is barren and I have reached such extreme old age?" 8 He said: "So (it will be). Your Lord says; It is easy for Me. Certainly I have created you before, when you had been nothing!" 9 He said: My Lord! Appoint for me some token. He said: Thy token is that thou, with no bodily defect, shalt not speak unto mankind three nights. 10 Then he came forth unto his people from the sanctuary, and signified to them: Glorify your Lord at break of day and fall of night. 11 [Allah] said, "O John, take the Scripture with determination." And We gave him judgement [while yet] a boy 12 and We also endowed him with tenderness and purity, and he was exceedingly pious 13 and cherishing his parents, not arrogant, rebellious. 14 So Peace on him the day he was born the day that he dies and the day that he will be raised up to life (again)! 15
