In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
Kaf. Ha. Ya. 'Ain. Sad. 1 A mention of the mercy of your Lord to His servant Zakariya. 2 When he called to his Lord a private supplication. 3 saying: 'O my Lord, my bones are enfeebled, and my head glows silver with age. Yet, never Lord, have I been unblessed in prayer to You. 4 "And Verily! I fear my relatives after me, since my wife is barren. So give me from Yourself an heir, 5 one that might be my heir and the heir of the house of Jacob; and make him, Lord, one that will be pleasing to You. 6 "O Zachariah," (it was) said, "We give you good news of a son by name of John.' To none have We attributed the name before." 7 He said: "My Lord! How can I have a son, when my wife is barren, and I have reached the extreme old age." 8 He answered: "So shall it be." Your Lord says: "It is easy for Me," and then added: "For beyond doubt, I created you earlier when you were nothing." 9 He said, “My Lord, give me a sign”; He said, “Your token is that you will not speak to people for three nights, although in proper health.” 10 Thereupon he came out of the sanctuary unto his people and signified to them [by gestures]: "Extol His limitless glory by day and by night!" 11 To John We said, "Hold fast the Book," and while he was still a child, We bestowed upon him wisdom, 12 And (made him) sympathetic to men as a mercy (or a grant) from Us, and pure from sins [i.e. Yahya (John)] and he was righteous, 13 And duteous unto his parents, and was not high-handed rebel. 14 Hence, [God's] peace was upon him on the day when he was born, and on the day of his death, and will be [upon him] on the day when he shall be raised to life [again]. 15
