In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
KaafHaYa'aeenSaad. 1 This is an account of your Lord's mercy bestowed upon His servant Zachariah, 2 when he called upon his Lord in low tones, saying, 3 saying, 'O my Lord, behold the bones within me are feeble and my head is all aflame with hoariness. And in calling on Thee, my Lord, I have never been hitherto unprosperous. 4 now I fear my kinsmen when I am gone. [I have no hope of their continuing my mission] for my wife is barren, so grant me a successor from Yourself, 5 to be my heir and to be the heir [of the blessings] of the House of Jacob; and make him, O my Lord, acceptable to you." 6 (It was said unto him): O Zachariah! Lo! We bring thee tidings of a son whose name is John; We have given the same name to none before (him). 7 He said: "O my Lord! How shall I have a son, when my wife is barren and I have grown quite decrepit from old age?" 8 He said, "It will be so! Your Lord says, 'It is easy for Me for I created you when you were nothing before.'" 9 He said, 'Lord, appoint to me some sign.' Said He, 'Thy sign is that thou shall not speak to men, though being without fault, three nights.' 10 Then Zachariah came forth from the shrine to his people and told them by signs to glorify the Lord morning and evening. 11 “O Yahya – hold the Book firmly”; and We gave him Prophethood in his infancy. (Prophet Yahya was only 2 years old at that time.) 12 and a tenderness from Us, and purity; and he was godfearing, 13 And was good to his parents and not forceful, nor disobedient. 14 Peace be on him on the day of his birth, and on the day of his death, and peace will be on him on the day he is raised up to life again. 15
