Mary (Maryam)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
Kaf, Ha, Ya, 'Ayn, Sad. 1 This is the story of the blessing of your Lord to His servant Zachariah. 2 Behold! he cried to his Lord in secret, 3 Saying: My Lord! Lo! the bones of me wax feeble and my head is shining with grey hair, and I have never been unblest in prayer to Thee, my Lord. 4 I am afraid of what my kinsmen will do after (my death) and my wife is barren. Lord, grant me a son 5 who will be my heir and an heir to the House of Jacob, and make him, my Lord, satisfied' 6 (Allah said) "O Zakariya (Zachariah)! Verily, We give you the glad tidings of a son, His name will be Yahya (John). We have given that name to none before (him)." 7 He submitted, “My Lord – how can I have a son whereas my wife is barren and I have reached infirmity due to old age?” 8 He said, "It will be so! Your Lord says, 'It is easy for Me for I created you when you were nothing before.'" 9 He said: "O Lord, give me a token." "Though sound," He answered, "you will not talk to any one for three nights running." 10 So he came forth unto his people from the Sanctuary, then he made signal to them, 'Give you glory at dawn and evening.' 11 O Yahya! hold fast the book. And We vouchsafed unto him wisdom, while yet a child. 12 and a tenderness from Us, and purity; and he was godfearing, 13 And duteous unto his parents, and was not high-handed rebel. 14 So Peace on him the day he was born, the day that he dies, and the day that he will be raised up to life (again)! 15
