Mary (Maryam)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
Kaf. Ha. Ya. Ain. Sad. 1 This is an account of your Lord's mercy bestowed upon His servant Zachariah, 2 When he called to his Lord inwardly, 3 He submitted, “O my Lord – my bones have become weak and old age shines forth from my head, and O my Lord, I have never been disappointed in my prayer to you.” 4 And now I fear my kinsfolk after I am gone; and my wife is barren. So give me, from Thee, a kinsman 5 who will be my heir and the heir of the family of Jacob. Lord, make him a person who will please you". 6 (It was said unto him): O Zachariah! Lo! We bring thee tidings of a son whose name is John; We have given the same name to none before (him). 7 He said, "My Lord, how will I have a boy when my wife has been barren and I have reached extreme old age?" 8 He replied: 'It shall be so; your Lord says: "It is easy for Me, indeed, I created you before time when you were not a thing." 9 He said: My Lord! Appoint for me some token. He said: Thy token is that thou, with no bodily defect, shalt not speak unto mankind three nights. 10 So he went forth to his people from his place of worship, then he made known to them that they should glorify (Allah) morning and evening. 11 (To his son came the command): "O Yahya! take hold of the Book with might": and We gave him Wisdom even as a youth, 12 We gave him compassion and purity. He was a pious human being, 13 and cherishing to his parents. Never was he insolent or rebellious. 14 So peace on him the day he was born, the day he will die, and the day that he will be raised from the dead. 15
