Mary (Maryam)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
Kaf. Ha. Ya. A'in. Sad. 1 A mention of the mercy of your Lord to His servant Zakariya. 2 Recall what time he cried unto his Lord with a cry secret. 3 He said: "Lord! My bones have grown feeble and my head is glistening with age; yet, never have my prayers to You, my Lord, been unfruitful. 4 "And Verily! I fear my relatives after me, since my wife is barren. So give me from Yourself an heir, 5 "Who shall inherit me, and inherit (also) the posterity of Ya'qub (Jacob) (inheritance of the religious knowledge and Prophethood, not the wealth, etc.). And make him, my Lord, one with whom You are Well-pleased!". 6 (It was said unto him): O Zachariah! Lo! We bring thee tidings of a son whose name is John; We have given the same name to none before (him). 7 He said, "Lord, how can I have a son? My wife is barren and I have reached an extremely old age". 8 He answered: "So shall it be." Your Lord says: "It is easy for Me," and then added: "For beyond doubt, I created you earlier when you were nothing." 9 He said: My Lord! give me a sign. He said: Your sign is that you will not be able to speak to the people three nights while in sound health. 10 Then Zachariah came forth from the shrine to his people and told them by signs to glorify the Lord morning and evening. 11 (And it was said unto his son): O John! Hold fast the Scripture. And we gave him wisdom when a child, 12 We gave him compassion and purity. He was a pious human being, 13 And dutiful toward his parents. And he was not arrogant, rebellious. 14 So Peace on him the day he was born the day that he dies and the day that he will be raised up to life (again)! 15
