In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
Kaf Ha Ya Ain Sad 1 (This is) a mention of the mercy of your Lord to His slave Zakariya (Zachariah). 2 When he called out to his Sustainer in the secrecy of his heart, 3 Praying: "O my Lord! infirm indeed are my bones, and the hair of my head doth glisten with grey: but never am I unblest, O my Lord, in my prayer to Thee! 4 And indeed, I fear the successors after me, and my wife has been barren, so give me from Yourself an heir 5 "Who shall inherit me, and inherit (also) the posterity of Ya'qub (Jacob) (inheritance of the religious knowledge and Prophethood, not the wealth, etc.). And make him, my Lord, one with whom You are Well-pleased!". 6 O Zakariya! surely We give you good news of a boy whose name shall be Yahya: We have not made before anyone his equal. 7 He said: "My Lord! How can I have a son, when my wife is barren, and I have reached the extreme old age." 8 He replied: 'It shall be so; your Lord says: "It is easy for Me, indeed, I created you before time when you were not a thing." 9 He (Zachariah) said: 'Lord, make for me a sign' He replied: 'Your sign is that you shall not speak to people for three nights being without fault' 10 So he came out to his people from the prayer chamber and signaled to them to exalt [Allah] in the morning and afternoon. 11 O Yahya! take hold of the Book with strength, and We granted him wisdom while yet a child 12 And affection from Us and purity, and he was fearing of Allah 13 And was good to his parents and not forceful, nor disobedient. 14 'Peace be upon him, the day he was born, and the day he dies, and the day he is raised up alive!' 15
