Mary (Maryam)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
KAF HA YA 'AIN SAD. 1 Commemorate the beneficence of your Lord on Zachariah, His devotee, 2 when he called upon his Lord in secret, 3 He said, "My Lord, indeed my bones have weakened, and my head has filled with white, and never have I been in my supplication to You, my Lord, unhappy. 4 Lo! I fear my kinsfolk after me, since my wife is barren. Oh, give me from Thy presence a successor 5 Who will be heir to me, and heir to the house of Jacob; and make him obedient to You, O Lord." 6 'O Zachariah, We give you good tidings of a son, and he shall be called John (Yahya); a name We have never given before' 7 'How shall I have a son, Lord' he asked, 'when my wife is barren, and I am advanced in years' 8 Answered [the angel]: "Thus it is; [but] thy Sustainer says, 'This is easy for Me - even as I have created thee aforetime out of nothing'". 9 He said, “My Lord, give me a sign”; He said, “Your token is that you will not speak to people for three nights, although in proper health.” 10 Then he came out to his people from Al-Mihrab (a praying place or a private room, etc.), he told them by signs to glorify Allah's Praises in the morning and in the afternoon. 11 (To his son came the command): "O Yahya! take hold of the Book with might": and We gave him Wisdom even as a youth, 12 And compassion from Ourselves, and chastity; and he was extremely pious. 13 And was good to his parents and not forceful, nor disobedient. 14 So Peace on him the day he was born the day that he dies and the day that he will be raised up to life (again)! 15
