Mary (Maryam)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
Kaf. Ha. Ya. Ain. Sad. 1 This is the story of the blessing of your Lord to His servant Zachariah. 2 Recall what time he cried unto his Lord with a cry secret. 3 and said, "My Lord, my bones have become feeble and my hair has turned white with age. Yet I have never been deprived in receiving from You the answer to my prayers. 4 "Now, behold, I am afraid of [what] my kinsfolk [will do] after I am gone, for my wife has always been barren. Bestow, then, upon me, out of Thy grace, the gift of a successor 5 “He being my successor and the heir of the Descendants of Yaqub (Jacob); and my Lord, make him a cherished* one.” (* Make him a Prophet among the Descendants of Israel.) 6 'O Zachariah, We give you good tidings of a son, and he shall be called John (Yahya); a name We have never given before' 7 He said, "My Lord, how will I have a boy when my wife has been barren and I have reached extreme old age?" 8 Said He, 'So it shall be; thy Lord says, "Easy is that for Me, seeing that I created thee aforetime, when thou wast nothing."' 9 (Zakariya) said: "O my Lord! give me a Sign." "Thy Sign," was the answer, "Shall be that thou shalt speak to no man for three nights, although thou art not dumb." 10 He therefore emerged upon his people from the mosque, and told them through gestures, “Keep proclaiming the Purity (of your Lord) morning and evening.” 11 "O John! Hold the Book with all your strength." We had bestowed wisdom upon him while he was still a child; 12 and We also endowed him with tenderness and purity, and he was exceedingly pious 13 kind to his parents, not arrogant or a rebellious person. 14 And Peace be unto him the day he was born and the day he dieth and the day he will be raised up alive. 15
