And certainly We revealed to Musa, saying: Travel by night with My servants, then make for them a dry path in the sea, not fearing to be overtaken, nor being afraid. 77 The Pharaoh and his army chased Moses and his people but were drowned by the sea. 78 so Pharaoh had led his people astray, and was no guide to them. 79 Children of Israel! We saved you from your enemy and made a covenant with you on the right side of the Mount and sent down on you manna and quails, 80 “Eat the good clean things We have provided you, and do not exceed the limits in respect of it causing My wrath to descend upon you; and indeed the one on whom My wrath descended, has fallen.” 81 Yet I am All-forgiving to him who repents and believes, and does righteousness, and at last is guided.' 82 ۞ And (it was said): What hath made thee hasten from thy folk, O Moses? 83 He said: They are here on my track and I hastened on to Thee, my Lord, that Thou mightest be pleased. 84 He said: "We have put your people on trial in your absence; and Sameri has led them astray." 85 So Moses returned to his people in a state of indignation and sorrow. He said: "O my people! did not your Lord make a handsome promise to you? Did then the promise seem to you long (in coming)? Or did ye desire that Wrath should descend from your Lord on you, and so ye broke your promise to me?" 86 They said: "We broke not the promise to thee, as far as lay in our power: but we were made to carry the weight of the ornaments of the (whole) people, and we threw them (into the fire), and that was what the Samiri suggested. 87 and brought out of there (from the molten gold) the effigy of a calf that lowed." The people cried out: "This is your deity and the deity of Moses, whom Moses has forgotten." 88 Did they not consider that the calf could not give them any answer, nor it could harm or benefit them? 89
