Aaron had already told them, "O my people! You are only being tested by this. Your Lord is the All Merciful, so follow me and obey my command." 90 They said: We will by no means cease to keep to its worship until Musa returns to us. 91 Then Moses asked Aaron, "What made you not follow me when you saw them in error? 92 So that you did not follow me? Did you then disobey my order? 93 'Son of my mother' he replied, 'Do not seize my beard nor my head. I was afraid that you might say: "You have divided the Children of Israel and did not uphold my word." 94 (Moses) said: And what hast thou to say, O Samiri? 95 He said: "I saw what they did not see. I picked up a handful of dust from the messenger's tracks and threw it in, for the idea seemed attractive to me." 96 He said: Begone then, surely for you it will be in this life to say, Touch (me) not; and surely there is a threat for you, which shall not be made to fail to you, and look at your god to whose worship you kept (so long); we will certainly burn it, then we will certainly scatter it a (wide) scattering in the sea. 97 Your God is only the One God; there is no god, but He alone who in His knowledge embraces everything.' 98 And so We narrate to you the stories of the past, and We have given you a remembrance from Us. 99 Whoever turns away from it will bear a heavy burden on the Day of Judgement, 100 and live in it for ever; how evil will that burden be for them on the Day of Resurrection. 101 On the day the Trumpet is blown; and We shall muster the sinners upon that day with eyes staring, 102 In whispers will they speak to each other (saying): "You stayed not longer than ten (days)." 103 We know best what they say. The moderate ones among them will say, "You did not live on earth for more than a day." 104
