۞ We bestowed aforetime on Abraham his rectitude of conduct, and well were We acquainted with him. 51 Recall, when he said to his father and his people: "What are these images to which you are devoutly clinging?" 52 They answered: "We found our forefathers worshipping them." 53 He said: "You and your fathers were in clear error." 54 They asked: "Hast thou come unto us [with this claim] in all earnest - or art thou one of those jesters?" 55 'No' he answered, 'your Lord is the Lord of the heavens and the earth, the Originator of them, and I am among those bearing witness to it. 56 Abraham said to himself, "By God! I will devise a plan against their idols when they are away." 57 So he broke them into fragments, all but a great one they had, for haply they would return to it. 58 "Who has done this to our deities? He must be a wrongdoer." 59 They said: "We heard a young man talking (against) them who is called Ibrahim (Abraham)." 60 They said, "Then bring him here in the sight of all the people, so that they may act as witnesses." 61 They asked, "Abraham, did you do this to our idols?" 62 He said, "Rather, this - the largest of them - did it, so ask them, if they should [be able to] speak." 63 They then turned to themselves, and said: verily ye it is who are the wrong-doers. 64 Then were they confounded with shame: (they said), "Thou knowest full well that these (idols) do not speak!" 65 [Ibrahim (Abraham)] said: "Do you then worship besides Allah, things that can neither profit you, nor harm you? 66 “Disgrace be upon you and all the idols whom you worship instead of Allah; so do you not have sense?” 67 They said, "Burn him and protect your gods, If ye do (anything at all)!" 68 [But] We said: O fire! Be thou cool, and [a source of] inner peace for Abraham!" 69 and whereas they sought to do evil unto him, We caused them to suffer the greatest loss: 70 And We rescued him and Lout (Lot) to the land which We have blessed for the 'Alamin (mankind and jinns). 71 And We bestowed upon him Isaac, and Jacob as a grandson. Each of them We made righteous. 72 and appointed them leaders to guide by Our Command and We revealed to them to do good deeds, and to establish the prayer, and the giving of charity, and they were for Us worshipers. 73 And Lot -- to him We gave judgment and knowledge; and we delivered him from the city that had been doing deeds of corruption; they were an evil people, truly ungodly; 74 whereas him We admitted unto Our grace: for, behold, he was among the righteous. 75
