۞ AND, INDEED, long before [the time of Moses] We vouchsafed unto Abraham his consciousness of what is right; and We were aware of [what moved] him 51 Behold! he said to his father and his people, "What are these images, to which ye are (so assiduously) devoted?" 52 They answered: "We found our fathers worshipping them." 53 He said: assuredly ye, ye and your fathers, have been in error manifest. 54 They said: hast thou come unto us with the truth, or art thou of those who sport? 55 He said: Aye! your Lord is the Lord of the heavens and the earth Who created them, and as to that I am of the witnesses. 56 And [I swear] by Allah, I will surely plan against your idols after you have turned and gone away." 57 So he smashed them up to pieces with the exception of the biggest, so that they may turn to it. 58 They said: "Who has done this to our aliha (gods)? He must indeed be one of the wrong-doers." 59 Some among them said, “We heard a youth speak ill of them – the one called Ibrahim.” 60 They said, 'Bring him before the people's eyes; haply they shall bear witness.' 61 They said, "Abraham, was it you who did this to our deities?" 62 'No' he replied. 'It was their great one amongst them that did it. Ask them, if they are able to speak' 63 So they turned towards their own selves and (inwardly) said, “Indeed you yourselves are unjust.” 64 Thereafter they were made to turn over upon their heads, saying, assuredly thou knowest that they speak not. 65 [Ibrahim (Abraham)] said: "Do you then worship besides Allah, things that can neither profit you, nor harm you? 66 Fie upon you and upon that which ye worship beside Allah! Will ye not then reflect? 67 They said: burn him, and succour your gods, if ye will be doing. 68 "Turn cold, O fire," We said, "and give safety to Abraham." 69 They had sought to do him harm, but We frustrated them. 70 for We saved him and Lot, [his brother's son, by guiding them] to the land which We have blessed for all times to come. 71 We bestowed Isaac and then Jacob on him as an additional boon and We made all of them righteous. 72 And We made them leaders to guide (the people) by Our command; and We inspired them to perform good deeds and observe their moral obligations and pay the zakat; and they obeyed Us. 73 And (remember) Lout (Lot), We gave him Hukman (right judgement of the affairs and Prophethood) and (religious) knowledge, and We saved him from the town (folk) who practised Al-Khaba'ith (evil, wicked and filthy deeds, etc.). Verily, they were a people given to evil, and were Fasiqun (rebellious, disobedient, to Allah). 74 We admitted him to Our mercy; he was a righteous man. 75
