۞ Before this We gave Abraham his guidance. We knew him well. 51 when he said unto his father and his people, "What are these images to which you are so intensely devoted?" 52 They said, “We found our forefathers worshipping them.” 53 He said: 'Truly, you and your fathers are in clear error' 54 They said: Bringest thou unto us the truth, or art thou some jester? 55 He said: Aye! your Lord is the Lord of the heavens and the earth Who created them, and as to that I am of the witnesses. 56 And, by God, I shall assuredly outwit your idols, after you have gone away turning your backs.' 57 So he made them into fragments, except a large one among them, that they might return to it [and question]. 58 They said: Who has done this to our gods? Most surely he is one of the unjust. 59 'We have heard a young man called Abraham mention them' they replied. 60 They said: Then bring him (hither) before the people's eyes that they may testify. 61 [And when he came.] they asked: "Hast thou done this to our gods, O Abraham?" 62 "No," he said. "It was done by that chief of theirs. Ask him in case they can speak." 63 So they returned one to another saying, 'Surely, it is you who are the harmdoers' 64 But then they relapsed into their former way of thinking and said: "Thou knowest very well that these [idols] cannot speak!" 65 He said: worship ye, then, beside Allah, that which profiteth you not at all, nor it hurteth you? 66 Fie on you and all that ye worship instead of Allah! Have ye then no sense? 67 They said, “Burn him and help your Gods, if you want to.” 68 We said to the fire, "Be cool and peaceful (with Abraham)". 69 They sought to outwit him, but We made them the worst of losers. 70 and We delivered him, and Lot, unto the land that We had blessed for all beings. 71 And We gave him Isaac and Jacob in addition, and all [of them] We made righteous. 72 We made them leaders who guided people by Our command. We revealed to them the doing of good, observance of prayer and the giving of alms and Us alone did they worship. 73 To Lot We gave wisdom and knowledge, and saved him from a people who acted villainously and were certainly wicked and disobedient. 74 And We admitted him into Our mercy. Indeed, he was of the righteous. 75
