۞ And We had certainly given Abraham his sound judgement before, and We were of him well-Knowing 51 When he said to his father and his people: "What are these idols to which you cling so passionately?" 52 They said, "We found our fathers worshipping them." 53 He said: Certainly you have been, (both) you and your fathers, in manifest error. 54 They said: "Have you brought us the truth, or are you one of those who play about?" 55 He answered: "Nay, but your [true] Sustainer is the Sustainer of the heavens and the earth - He who has brought them into being: and I am one of those who bear witness to this [truth]!" 56 And [he added to himself.] "By God, I shall most certainly bring about the downfall of your idols as soon as you have turned your backs and gone away!" 57 Then he broke them all into pieces, sparing only the supreme one among them that they may possibly return to him. 58 (When they saw the idols in this state) they said: "Who has done this to our gods? Surely he is one of the wrong-doers." 59 Some said, "We heard a young man, called Abraham, talking about them." 60 They said, “Therefore bring him in front of the people, perhaps they may testify.” 61 They said: Is it thou who hast done this to our gods, O Abraham? 62 He said: But this, their chief hath done it. So question them, if they can speak. 63 Then they thought and observed: "Surely you are yourselves unjust." 64 With their heads cast down they said, "Abraham, you know that idols do not speak. How then can you ask such a question?" 65 [Ibrahim (Abraham)] said: "Do you then worship besides Allah, things that can neither profit you, nor harm you? 66 Fie on you and those you worship besides God! Will you not understand?" 67 They said: burn him, and succour your gods, if ye will be doing. 68 Allah said, "O fire, be coolness and safety upon Abraham." 69 They wished to entrap him, but We made them greater losers. 70 for We saved him and Lot, [his brother's son, by guiding them] to the land which We have blessed for all times to come. 71 And We bestowed on him Isaac and, as an additional gift, (a grandson), Jacob, and We made righteous men of every one (of them). 72 and appointed them to be leaders guiding by Our command, and We revealed to them the doing of good deeds, and to perform the prayer, and to pay the alms, and Us they served. 73 And unto Lot we gave judgment and knowledge, and We delivered him from the community that did abominations. Lo! they were folk of evil, lewd. 74 And We took him into Our mercy; surely he was of the good. 75
