۞ Before this We gave Abraham his virtue, for We knew him. 51 When he asked his father and his people, "What are these images to which you are so devoted?" 52 They replied: "We found our fathers worshipping them." 53 He said: Verily ye and your fathers were in plain error. 54 They asked: "Hast thou come unto us [with this claim] in all earnest - or art thou one of those jesters?" 55 He said: Aye! your Lord is the Lord of the heavens and the earth Who created them, and as to that I am of the witnesses. 56 And by Allah I shall surely devise a plot against your idols after ye turned away backward. 57 So he broke them into pieces, except the chief of them, that haply they may return to it. 58 [When they saw what had happened,] they said: "Who has done this to our gods? Verily, one of the worst wrongdoers is he!" 59 'We have heard a young man called Abraham mention them' they replied. 60 They said: "Then bring him before the eyes of the people, that they may testify." 61 They said: "Are you the one who has done this to our gods, O Ibrahim (Abraham)?" 62 He said: But this, their chief hath done it. So question them, if they can speak. 63 Then they turned to themselves and said: Surely you yourselves are the unjust; 64 Then their minds were turned upside down, and they said: "You know well that they do not speak." 65 He said: 'Would you then worship that, instead of Allah, which can neither help nor harm you? 66 Fie on you and all that ye worship instead of Allah! Have ye then no sense? 67 They said: "Burn him and help your aliha (gods), if you will be doing." 68 We said: O fire! be a comfort and peace to Ibrahim; 69 They had devised an evil plan (against Abraham), but We turned it into failure." 70 And We rescued him and Lot (and brought them) to the land which We have blessed for (all) peoples. 71 And We bestowed upon him ls-haq and Ya qub as a grandson; and each one We made righteous. 72 and appointed them to be leaders guiding by Our command, and We revealed to them the doing of good deeds, and to perform the prayer, and to pay the alms, and Us they served. 73 And to Lot We gave judgement and knowledge, and We saved him from the city that was committing wicked deeds. Indeed, they were a people of evil, defiantly disobedient. 74 And We admitted him into Our mercy. Verily he was of the righteous. 75
