۞ Before this We gave Abraham his guidance. We knew him well. 51 When he said to his father and his people, "What are these statues to which you are devoted?" 52 They said, 'We found our fathers serving them.' 53 He said: Certainly you have been, (both) you and your fathers, in manifest error. 54 They said: "Have you brought us the truth, or are you one of those who play about?" 55 He said: "Nay, your Lord is the Lord of the heavens and the earth, Who created them and of that I am one of the witnesses. 56 And [I swear] by Allah, I will surely plan against your idols after you have turned and gone away." 57 And then he broke those [idols] to pieces, [all] save the biggest of them, so that they might [be able to] turn to it. 58 (When they saw the idols in this state) they said: "Who has done this to our gods? Surely he is one of the wrong-doers." 59 Some of them said: "We heard a youth called Abraham speak (ill) of them." 60 They said: 'Then bring him here so that the people may see, so that they may bear witness' 61 They said: art thou the one who hath wrought this unto our gods, O Ibrahim? 62 He said: rather he hath wrought it, this big one of them; so question them, if they ever speak. 63 Then they turned to one another and said, "It is you yourselves who are in the wrong," 64 Then they were made to hang down their heads: Certainly you know that they do not speak. 65 (Abraham) said, "Do ye then worship, besides Allah, things that can neither be of any good to you nor do you harm? 66 Fie on you and all that ye worship instead of Allah! Have ye then no sense? 67 They said, "Burn him and help your deities, if you are resolved to do something." 68 We said: O fire, be coolness and peace for Abraham, 69 They desired to outwit him; so We made them the worse losers, 70 And We delivered him and Lot to the land which We had blessed for the worlds. 71 And We bestowed upon him Isaac, and Jacob as a grandson. Each of them We made righteous. 72 and appointed them to be leaders guiding by Our command, and We revealed to them the doing of good deeds, and to perform the prayer, and to pay the alms, and Us they served. 73 To Lot We gave wisdom and knowledge and delivered him from the city which practiced abomination. They were indeed a wicked people. 74 whereas him We admitted unto Our grace: for, behold, he was among the righteous. 75
