۞ AND, INDEED, long before [the time of Moses] We vouchsafed unto Abraham his consciousness of what is right; and We were aware of [what moved] him 51 Recall what time he said unto his father and his people: what are these images to which ye are cleaving? 52 They said, "We found our fathers worshippers of them." 53 He said, "Indeed ye have been in manifest error - ye and your fathers." 54 They said, 'What, hast thou come to us with the truth, or art thou one of those that play?' 55 He said: "In fact it was your Lord, the Lord of the heavens and the earth, who created them; and I bear witness to this. 56 And [I swear] by Allah, I will surely plan against your idols after you have turned and gone away." 57 So he broke them into fragments, all but a great one they had, for haply they would return to it. 58 They said: who hath wrought this to our gods? verily he is of the wrong-doers. 59 Some of them said, "We heard a youth called Abraham speaking against the idols". 60 They said, "Then bring him here in the sight of all the people, so that they may act as witnesses." 61 They said: Have you done this to our gods, O Ibrahim? 62 He said: rather he hath wrought it, this big one of them; so question them, if they ever speak. 63 So they returned one to another, and they said, 'Surely it is you who are the evildoers.' 64 But then they reversed their minds: 'You know they do not speak' 65 Abraham said, "So, do you worship something instead of God that can neither benefit you nor harm you? 66 Fie on you and on what you serve besides Allah; what! do you not then understand? 67 They said, 'Burn him, and help your gods, if you would do aught.' 68 We said: O fire! be a comfort and peace to Ibrahim; 69 And they intended for him harm, but We made them the greatest losers. 70 and We delivered him, and Lot, unto the land that We had blessed for all beings. 71 And We gave him Isaac and Jacob in addition, and all [of them] We made righteous. 72 And We made them chiefs who guide by Our command, and We inspired in them the doing of good deeds and the right establishment of worship and the giving of alms, and they were worshippers of Us (alone). 73 And We gave Lut the kingdom and knowledge, and We rescued him from the township that committed vile deeds; indeed those evil people were disobedient. 74 We admitted him to Our mercy; he was a righteous man. 75
