۞ And assuredly We vouchsafed unto Ibrahim his rectitude aforetime, and him We had ever known. 51 Behold! he said to his father and his people, "What are these images, to which ye are (so assiduously) devoted?" 52 They answered: "We found our fathers worshipping them." 53 He said, 'Then assuredly you and your fathers have been in manifest error.' 54 They said, “Have you brought the Truth to us, or are you just making fun?” 55 He said: "Nay, your Lord is the Lord of the heavens and the earth, Who created them and of that I am one of the witnesses. 56 And, by Allah! I will certainly do something against your idols after you go away, turning back. 57 So he broke them into pieces, except the chief of them, that haply they may return to it. 58 They said: Who hath done this to our gods? Surely it must be some evil-doer. 59 Some of them said: "We heard a youth called Abraham speak (ill) of them." 60 The others said: "Bring him, then, before the eyes of the people that they may see (what will be done to him)." 61 [And when he came.] they asked: "Hast thou done this to our gods, O Abraham?" 62 He said, 'No; it was this great one of them that did it. Question them; if they are able to speak!' 63 Then gathered they apart and said: Lo! ye yourselves are the wrong-doers. 64 But then they relapsed into their former way of thinking and said: "Thou knowest very well that these [idols] cannot speak!" 65 He said: What! do you then serve besides Allah what brings you not any benefit at all, nor does it harm you? 66 Uff to you and to what you worship instead of Allah. Then will you not use reason?" 67 They said: Burn him and help your gods, if you are going to do (anything). 68 We said: O fire! be a comfort and peace to Ibrahim; 69 and whereas they sought to do evil unto him, We caused them to suffer the greatest loss: 70 And We delivered him and Lut to the land wherein We had placed Our blessings for the worlds. 71 And We bestowed upon him Isaac, and Jacob as a grandson. Each of them We made righteous. 72 And We made them leaders, guiding (men) by Our Command, and We sent them inspiration to do good deeds, to establish regular prayers, and to practise regular charity; and they constantly served Us (and Us only). 73 To Lot, We gave judgment and knowledge and saved him from the village that had been committing corrupt deeds; for they were an evil nation and were debauched. 74 and We admitted him into Our mercy; he was of the righteous. 75
