۞ And We had certainly given Abraham his sound judgement before, and We were of him well-Knowing 51 Recall, when he said to his father and his people: "What are these images to which you are devoutly clinging?" 52 They said: We found our fathers worshippers of them. 53 He said: Verily ye and your fathers were in plain error. 54 They asked: "Hast thou come unto us [with this claim] in all earnest - or art thou one of those jesters?" 55 He answered: "Nay, but your [true] Sustainer is the Sustainer of the heavens and the earth - He who has brought them into being: and I am one of those who bear witness to this [truth]!" 56 Abraham said to himself, "By God! I will devise a plan against their idols when they are away." 57 He shattered them all, except the biggest among them, that perhaps they may question it. 58 They said, "Who has done this to our gods? He must indeed be some man of impiety!" 59 Some of them said: "We heard a youth called Abraham speak (ill) of them." 60 They said, "Then bring him before the eyes of the people that they may testify." 61 (On Abraham's arrival) they said: "Abraham, are you he who has done this to our gods?" 62 'No' he replied. 'It was their great one amongst them that did it. Ask them, if they are able to speak' 63 So they turned towards their own selves and (inwardly) said, “Indeed you yourselves are unjust.” 64 Thereafter they were made to turn over upon their heads, saying, assuredly thou knowest that they speak not. 65 He said, "Then do you worship instead of Allah that which does not benefit you at all or harm you? 66 Fie on you and on what you serve besides Allah; what! do you not then understand? 67 They said, "Burn him to ashes if you want to help your gods". 68 We said: "O fire, become coolness and safety for Abraham." 69 and whereas they sought to do evil unto him, We caused them to suffer the greatest loss: 70 So We delivered him and Lot, and brought them to the land We had blessed for all the people. 71 And We bestowed upon him Isaac and Jacob as an additional gift, making each of them righteous. 72 And We made them leaders, guiding (mankind) by Our Command, and We inspired in them the doing of good deeds, performing Salat (Iqamat-as-Salat), and the giving of Zakat and of Us (Alone) they were worshippers. 73 And Lut! We vouchsafed unto him judgment and knowledge, and We delivered him out of the city which had been working foul deeds; verily they were a people evil, wicked. 74 And We took him into Our mercy; surely he was of the good. 75
