۞ Surely We had bestowed wisdom upon Abraham even earlier, and We knew him well. 51 He said to his father and to his nation: 'What, are these the statues to which you cling' 52 They answered: "We found our forefathers worshipping them." 53 He said: Certainly you have been, (both) you and your fathers, in manifest error. 54 They said: "Have you brought us the truth, or are you one of those who play about?" 55 He said: "Nay, your Lord is the Lord of the heavens and the earth, Who created them and of that I am one of the witnesses. 56 And [I swear] by Allah, I will surely plan against your idols after you have turned and gone away." 57 He broke them all into pieces, except for the biggest one of them, so that they might return to it [for enquiry]. 58 'Who has done this to our gods' they exclaimed. 'He must surely be a harmdoer' 59 Some of them said: "We heard a youth called Abraham speak (ill) of them." 60 The others said: "Bring him, then, before the eyes of the people that they may see (what will be done to him)." 61 They said, "Abraham, was it you who did this to our deities?" 62 He answered: "Rather it was this supreme one who has done it. So ask them, if they can speak." 63 They then turned to themselves, and said: verily ye it is who are the wrong-doers. 64 Thereafter they were made to turn over upon their heads, saying, assuredly thou knowest that they speak not. 65 He said: worship ye, then, beside Allah, that which profiteth you not at all, nor it hurteth you? 66 Fie upon you and upon that which ye worship beside Allah! Will ye not then reflect? 67 They said: 'Burn him and help your gods, if you are going to do anything' 68 We said, "O Fire! be thou cool, and (a means of) safety for Abraham!" 69 They wished to entrap him, but We made them greater losers. 70 And We saved him and Lot [and brought them] to a land which We had blessed for all people, 71 And We bestowed on him Isaac and, as an additional gift, (a grandson), Jacob, and We made righteous men of every one (of them). 72 And We made them Imams who guided (people) by Our command, and We revealed to them the doing of good and the keeping up of prayer and the giving of the alms, and Us (alone) did they serve; 73 To Lot We gave wisdom and knowledge, and saved him from a people who acted villainously and were certainly wicked and disobedient. 74 And We admitted him into Our mercy. Indeed, he was of the righteous. 75
