۞ And assuredly We vouchsafed unto Ibrahim his rectitude aforetime, and him We had ever known. 51 Abraham asked his father and his people, "What are these statues which you worship?" 52 They said, "We found our fathers worshippers of them." 53 Abraham said, "Indeed, you and your fathers have been clearly misguided." 54 They said: Have you brought to us the truth, or are you one of the triflers? 55 He said: "In fact it was your Lord, the Lord of the heavens and the earth, who created them; and I bear witness to this. 56 "And by Allah, I shall plot a plan (to destroy) your idols after you have gone away and turned your backs." 57 He broke them all into pieces, except their great one so that they might return to it. 58 They said: Who hath done this to our gods? Surely it must be some evil-doer. 59 They said: "We heard a young man talking (against) them who is called Ibrahim (Abraham)." 60 Said they: Then bring him before the eyes of the people, perhaps they may bear witness. 61 They said: art thou the one who hath wrought this unto our gods, O Ibrahim? 62 He answered, "Rather this biggest one of them did it. Ask them, if they can speak." 63 Then they turned to one another and said, "It is you yourselves who are in the wrong," 64 then they hung their heads, and said, "O Abraham! You know they cannot speak." 65 (Abraham) said, "Do ye then worship, besides Allah, things that can neither be of any good to you nor do you harm? 66 Fie on you and on what you serve besides Allah; what! do you not then understand? 67 They said, 'Burn him, and help your gods, if you would do aught.' 68 But We said, "Fire! Be cool and a means of safety for Abraham." 69 They wished to entrap him, but We made them greater losers. 70 And We rescued him and Lot (and brought them) to the land which We have blessed for (all) peoples. 71 And We gave him Isaac and Jacob in addition, and all [of them] We made righteous. 72 And We made them Imams who guided (people) by Our command, and We revealed to them the doing of good and the keeping up of prayer and the giving of the alms, and Us (alone) did they serve; 73 And to Lut, too, We gave Judgment and Knowledge, and We saved him from the town which practised abominations: truly they were a people given to Evil, a rebellious people. 74 We encompassed him in Our mercy; he was a righteous man. 75
