۞ And assuredly We vouchsafed unto Ibrahim his rectitude aforetime, and him We had ever known. 51 When he said to his father and his people: What are these images to whose worship you cleave? 52 They replied, "We found our fathers worshipping them". 53 He said, "You were certainly, you and your fathers, in manifest error." 54 They said: 'Is it the truth you have brought us, or are you one of those that play' 55 He said: Nay, but your Lord is the Lord of the heavens and the earth, Who created them; and I am of those who testify unto that. 56 By the Lord, I will devise a plan against your deities after you have gone away and turned your backs!" 57 Then he broke them all into pieces, sparing only the supreme one among them that they may possibly return to him. 58 They asked (on return): "Who has done this to our gods? He is surely a mischief-monger." 59 Some said, "We heard a young man, called Abraham, talking about them." 60 They said: "Then bring him before the eyes of the people, that they may testify." 61 [And when he came.] they asked: "Hast thou done this to our gods, O Abraham?" 62 He said, "Rather, this - the largest of them - did it, so ask them, if they should [be able to] speak." 63 And so they turned upon one another, saying, "Behold, it is you who are doing wrong." 64 Then their minds were turned upside down, and they said: "You know well that they do not speak." 65 He said, "Do you, instead of God, worship things that can neither harm nor benefit you?" 66 "Fie upon you, and upon the things that ye worship besides Allah! Have ye no sense?".. 67 They said: burn him, and succour your gods, if ye will be doing. 68 But We said, "Fire! Be cool and a means of safety for Abraham." 69 and whereas they sought to do evil unto him, We caused them to suffer the greatest loss: 70 And We rescued him and Lot (and brought them) to the land which We have blessed for (all) peoples. 71 And We bestowed on him Isaac, and Jacob as an additional gift, and made them righteous. 72 And We made them Imams who guided (people) by Our command, and We revealed to them the doing of good and the keeping up of prayer and the giving of the alms, and Us (alone) did they serve; 73 And to Lot We gave judgement and knowledge, and We saved him from the city that was committing wicked deeds. Indeed, they were a people of evil, defiantly disobedient. 74 We encompassed him in Our mercy; he was a righteous man. 75
