Said the Council of the unbelievers of his people, who cried lies to the encounter of the world to come, and to whom We had given ease in the present' life, 'This is naught but a mortal like yourselves, who eats of what you eat and drinks of what you drink. 33 If you were to obey a human being like yourselves, you will certainly be losers. 34 What, does he promise you that when you are dead and turned to dust and bones, you will be brought forth? 35 ۞ How far-fetched what you are promised; 36 “There is nothing except our life of this world, we die and we live, and we are not to be raised.” 37 He is nothing but a man who has forged against Allah a lie, we will never believe him' 38 (The prophet) said: "O my Lord! help me: for that they accuse me of falsehood." 39 He answered: "A short while, and they shall be repenting." 40 Then the shout laid hold of them in truth, and We made them a refuse; so away with the wrong-doing people! 41 Then, after them, We created other generations. 42 No nation will precede its time [of termination], nor will they remain [thereafter]. 43 Then We sent Our Messengers in succession. Whenever a Messenger came to his people they rejected him, calling him a liar. Thereupon, We made each people to follow the other (to its doom), reducing them to mere tales (of the past). Scourged be the people who do not believe! 44 Thereafter We sent Musa and his brother Harun with Our signs and an authority manifest. 45 To Fir'aun (Pharaoh) and his chiefs, but they behaved insolently and they were people self-exalting (by disobeying their Lord, and exalting themselves over and above the Messenger of Allah). 46 They said, "Are we to believe in two human beings like ourselves, while their people are subject to us?" 47 Thus, they gave the lie to those two, and earned (thereby) their place among the doomed: 48 And indeed We gave Musa (Moses) the Scripture, that they may be guided. 49 And [as We exalted Moses, so, too,] We made the son of Mary and his mother a symbol [of Our grace,] and provided for both an abode in a lofty place of lasting restfulness and unsullied springs. 50
