And the chiefs of his people, who disbelieved and denied the Meeting in the Hereafter, and to whom We had given the luxuries and comforts of this life, said: "He is no more than a human being like you, he eats of that which you eat, and drinks of what you drink. 33 "If you were to obey a human being like yourselves, then verily! You indeed would be losers. 34 What! does he threaten you that when you are dead and become dust and bones that you shall then be brought forth? 35 ۞ How far-fetched what you are promised; 36 There is only the life of this world: We die and we live: there is no rising from the dead for us. 37 He is only a man who has invented a lie about God, and we are not going to believe him!" 38 The messenger said, "My Lord, help me, for they have rejected me." 39 He said, 'In a little they will be remorseful.' 40 Then the shout laid hold of them in truth, and We made them a refuse; so away with the wrong-doing people! 41 AND AFTER them We gave rise to new generations: 42 no community can advance or postpone its appointed time, 43 Then We sent Our apostles one after the other. Every time an apostle came to a people they denied him. So We made one follow the other (to its doom), and turned them into bygone tales. Cursed be the people who do not believe! 44 Then We sent Moses and his brother Aaron with Our signs and a manifest authority 45 Unto Fir'awn and his chiefs, but they grew stiff-necked, and they were a people self-exalting. 46 They therefore said, “Shall we believe in two humans like ourselves, whereas their nation is servile to us?” 47 So they accused them of falsehood, and they became of those who were destroyed. 48 And We gave Moses the Book, that haply they would be guided; 49 And [as We exalted Moses, so, too,] We made the son of Mary and his mother a symbol [of Our grace,] and provided for both an abode in a lofty place of lasting restfulness and unsullied springs. 50
