And said the chiefs of those who disbelieved among his people and belied the meeting of the Hereafter and whom We had luxuriated in the life of the world: this is no other than a human being like unto you; he eateth of that whereof ye eat, and he drinketh of that which ye drink. 33 if you obey a human being just like yourselves, then you will surely be lost. 34 Does he promise you that after you die and become dust and bones you will be brought back to life again? 35 ۞ Far, far is that which you are threatened with. 36 There is nothing but our present life; we die, and we live, and we shall not be raised up. 37 He is naught but a man who has forged against God a lie, and we will not believe him.' 38 [Whereupon the prophet] would say: "O my Sustainer! Succour me against their accusation of lying!" 39 God replied, "After a very short time they will certainly regret for their deeds." 40 A blast struck them for a just cause, and We made them look like withered leaves. God keeps the unjust people away from His mercy. 41 Then We raised up other generations after them, 42 No nation can go before its term ends nor stay back. 43 And We sent forth Our apostles, one after another: [and] every time their apostle came to a community, they gave him the lie: and so We caused them to follow one another [into the grave,] and let them become [mere] tales: and so - away with the folk who would not believe! 44 We then sent Moosa and his brother Haroon, with Our signs and a clear proof. 45 to Pharaoh and his Council, but they were very proud, and they were a tyrannical nation. 46 They said, "Are we to believe in two human beings like ourselves, while their people are subject to us?" 47 So they rejected them both, and became those who were destroyed. 48 And We certainly gave Moses the Scripture that perhaps they would be guided. 49 And We made the son of Mary and his mother a portent, and We gave them refuge on a height, a place of flocks and watersprings. 50
