And the chiefs of his people who disbelieved and called the meeting of the hereafter a lie, and whom We had given plenty to enjoy in this world's life, said: This is nothing but a mortal like yourselves, eating of what you eat from and drinking of what you drink. 33 If you obey a mortal like yourselves, you shall be lost. 34 "Does he promise that when ye die and become dust and bones, ye shall be brought forth (again)? 35 ۞ Such a promise will never come true. 36 There is only the life of this world: We die and we live: there is no rising from the dead for us. 37 He is not but a man who has invented a lie about Allah, and we will not believe him." 38 He said: my Lord! vindicate for they belie me. 39 God replied, "After a very short time they will certainly regret for their deeds." 40 So the punishment overtook them in justice, and We made them as rubbish; so away with the unjust people. 41 Then We produced after them other generations. 42 No people can hasten their term, nor can they delay (it). 43 Then We sent Our apostles one after the other. Every time an apostle came to a people they denied him. So We made one follow the other (to its doom), and turned them into bygone tales. Cursed be the people who do not believe! 44 We then sent Moosa and his brother Haroon, with Our signs and a clear proof. 45 To Pharaoh and his Chiefs: But these behaved insolently: they were an arrogant people. 46 And they said: What! shall we believe in two mortals like ourselves while their people serve us? 47 Thus, they gave the lie to those two, and earned (thereby) their place among the doomed: 48 We gave Moses the Book so that they might be guided. 49 And [as We exalted Moses, so, too,] We made the son of Mary and his mother a symbol [of Our grace,] and provided for both an abode in a lofty place of lasting restfulness and unsullied springs. 50
