Light (Al-Noor)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ This is a chapter which We have revealed and which We have made obligatory; We have sent down clear revelations in it, so that you may take heed. 1 Flog the fornicatress and the fornicator with a hundred lashes each. Let there be no reluctance in enforcing the laws of God, if you have faith in God and the Day of Judgment. Let it take place in the presence of a group of believers. 2 The fornicator shall not marry any but a fornicatress or idolatress, and (as for) the fornicatress, none shall marry her but a fornicator or an idolater; and it is forbidden to the believers. 3 Those who defame chaste women and do not bring four witnesses should be punished with eighty lashes, and their testimony should not be accepted afterwards, for they are profligates, 4 Except for those who repent thereafter and reform, for indeed, Allah is Forgiving and Merciful. 5 And those who cast it up on their wives having no witnesses except themselves, the testimony of one of them shall be to testify by God four times that he is of the truthful, 6 and the fifth time, that the curse of Allah shall be upon him, if he should be of the liars. 7 And it shall avert the chastisement from her if she testify four times, bearing Allah to witness that he is most surely one of the liars; 8 and a fifth time, that the wrath of God shall be upon her, if he should be of the truthful. 9 And had it not been for the grace of Allah and His mercy unto you, and that Allah is Clement, Wise, (ye had been undone). 10
