And certainly We gave Musa the Book and We appointed with him his brother Haroun an aider. 35 Then We said: go ye twain unto a people who have belied Our signs. Then We annihilated them an utter annihilation. 36 And Nuh's (Noah) people, when they denied the Messengers We drowned them, and We made them as a sign for mankind. And We have prepared a painful torment for the Zalimun (polytheists and wrong-doers, etc). 37 also to Aad and Thamood and the nation of ErRass and many generations in between; 38 To each one We set forth Parables and examples; and each one We broke to utter annihilation (for their sins). 39 Our Messengers came into the town which was struck by a fatal rain. Did they (unbelievers), not see what had happened to this town? In fact, they had no faith in the Resurrection. 40 Whenever they see you they only make a mockery of you -- "Is this the one God has sent as His Messenger? 41 Had we not been steadfast he would almost have led us astray from our gods." On facing torment they will soon know who had really gone astray. 42 Hast thou observed him who hath taken as his god his own desire! wilt thou be over him a trustee? 43 Do you think that most of them hear or understand? They are only like the cattle; nay, even worse than the cattle. 44
