Said Firaun to the court members around him, “He is indeed an expert magician.” 34 He would drive you out of your land through his magic; what then is it ye command? 35 They said: put off him and his brother, and send unto the cities callers. 36 to bring thee every cunning sorcerer. 37 So the sorcerers were gathered on the appointed day 38 And the people were also asked to assemble. 39 in order that we shall follow the sorcerers if they are the victors' 40 So when the sorcerers arrived, they said to Pharaoh: "Of course - shall we have a (suitable) reward if we win? 41 He replied, "Certainly, in that case you will join my inner circle." 42 Musa said unto them: cast whatsoever ye have to cast. 43 So they cast their ropes and staffs, saying: 'By Pharaoh's might, we shall be the victors' 44 Then Moses threw his rod, when, behold, it straightway swallows up all the falsehoods which they fake! 45 And the sorcerers fell down prostrate. 46 They said: We believe in the Lord of the worlds: 47 "The Lord of Moses and Aaron." 48 Said he: You believe in him before I give you permission; most surely he is the chief of you who taught you the magic, so you shall know: certainly I will cut off your hands and your feet on opposite sides, and certainly I will crucify you all. 49 They answered: "No harm [canst thou do to us]: verily, unto our Sustainer do we turn! 50 "Only, our desire is that our Lord will forgive us our faults, that we may become foremost among the believers!" 51
