And recite to them the news of Ibrahim. 69 When he said to his father and his people: What do you worship? 70 They said: "We worship idols, and to them we are ever devoted." 71 (Abraham) asked: "Do they hear when you call them? 72 or do they profit you, or harm?' 73 They said, "No, but our fathers worshipped them." 74 Said [Abraham]: "Have you, then, ever considered what it is that you have been worshipping 75 "You and your ancient fathers? 76 Yet they are my enemies except the Lord of all the worlds 77 “The One Who created me, so He will guide me.” 78 And Who feedeth me and watereth me. 79 and when I fall ill, is the One who restores me to health, 80 And Who causeth me to die, then giveth me life (again), 81 And Who, I hope, will forgive me my mistakes on the day of judgment. 82 “My Lord, bestow me the command and join me with those who deserve your proximity.” 83 And appoint for me an honourable mention among the posterity 84 And put me among the inheritors of Paradise. 85 and forgive my father, for he is one of those astray. 86 And disgrace me not on the day when they are raised 87 on the Day of Judgment when neither wealth nor children will be of any benefit 88 except for him who comes to God with a pure heart. 89 When Paradise shall be brought near to the God-fearing 90 and Hell advanced for the perverse. 91 And it will be said to them: "Where are those (the false gods whom you used to set up as rivals with Allah) that you used to worship 92 Besides Allah? Can they help you or yet help themselves? 93 So they shall be thrown down into it, they and the erring ones, 94 And the whole hosts of Iblis (Satan) together. 95 They will say while they dispute therein, 96 By Allah, we were truly in a manifest error, 97 In equating you with the Lord of all the worlds; 98 And none but the guilty led us astray; 99 We have no intercessors now, 100 Nor any loving friend. 101 Would that we had a second chance [in life,] so that we could be among the believers!" 102 Indeed in this is a sign; and most of them were not believers. 103 Surely, Your Lord is the Almighty, the Most Merciful. 104
