Tell them the story of Abraham, 69 when he asked his father and others, "What do you worship?" 70 They replied: "We worship idols and are devoted to them." 71 He said: "Do they hear you, when you call (on them)? 72 or can they benefit or harm you?" 73 They said, "But we found our fathers doing thus." 74 He said: "Do ye then see whom ye have been worshipping,- 75 and what your grandfathers worshipped 76 are my enemies? Not so the Lord of the Universe. 77 "Who created me, and it is He Who guides me; 78 and He gives me to eat and drink, 79 And when I am ill, it is He who cures me 80 "Who will cause me to die, and then to life (again); 81 "And Who, I hope will forgive me my faults on the Day of Recompense, (the Day of Resurrection)," 82 My Lord, give me judgment, and join me with the righteous. 83 and grant me an honourable reputation among posterity, 84 And place me among the inheritors of the Garden of Pleasure. 85 And forgive my father; verily he is of the erring. 86 And abase me not on the day when they are raised, 87 The day when wealth and sons avail not (any man) 88 “Except he who presented himself before Allah, with a sound* heart.” (Intact or unblemished.) 89 And the Garden will be brought nigh for those who ward off (evil). 90 And Hell made visible to those who had gone astray. 91 And it will be said to them: "Where are those (the false gods whom you used to set up as rivals with Allah) that you used to worship 92 “Instead of Allah? Will they help you or retaliate?” 93 So they will be overturned into Hellfire, they and the deviators 94 and the hosts of iblis all together. 95 And they will say, and they will be quarrelling in it: 96 By Allah, of a truth we were in error manifest 97 when we assigned to you a position equal to that of the Lord of the Universe. 98 And none but the guilty led us astray; 99 We have no one to intercede for us before God 100 “Nor a caring friend.” 101 (Alas!) If we only had a chance to return (to the world), we shall truly be among the believers! 102 Most surely there is a sign in this, but most of them do not believe. 103 Your Lord is certainly Majestic and All-merciful. 104
