And recite to them the story of Ibrahim. 69 when he asked his father and his people: "What do you worship?" 70 They said, “We worship idols, and we keep squatting in seclusion before them.” 71 He said, "Do they hear you when you supplicate? 72 or can they benefit or harm you?" 73 They replied: 'No, but we found our fathers doing so' 74 He said: See now that which ye worship, 75 Ye and your fathers of old? 76 Surely they are enemies to me, but not (so) the Lord of the worlds; 77 "Who created me, and it is He Who guides me; 78 And He Who gives me to eat and gives me to drink: 79 "And when I am ill, it is He who cures me. 80 and who will cause me to die and then will bring me back to life 81 and whom I am eager shall forgive me my sins on the Day of Recompense' 82 “My Lord, bestow me the command and join me with those who deserve your proximity.” 83 And appoint me a tongue of truthfulness among the latter. 84 and place me amongst the inheritors of the Garden of Bliss. 85 And forgive my father, verily he is of the erring; 86 And humiliate me not on the Day whereon people shall be raised. 87 the day when neither wealth nor sons shall profit 88 except for him who comes to God with a pure heart. 89 And Paradise shall be brought forward for the godfearing, 90 and the Fire will be uncovered for those who strayed, 91 and they will be asked: "Where are the gods that you worshipped 92 Other than Allah? Can they help you or help themselves?" 93 Then the idols and those who strayed will be hurled into the Fire headlong, one upon another, 94 and the hosts of iblis all together. 95 And there and then, blaming one another, they [who had grievously sinned in life] will exclaim: 96 they will say, "By God, we were in clear error 97 When we made you equal to the Lord of the worlds; 98 And none led us astray except the culprits. 99 so now we have no intercessors, 100 And not a devoted friend. 101 O that we might return again, and be among the believers!' 102 Surely in that is a sign, yet most of them are not believers. 103 Verily your Lord is mighty and merciful. 104
