Relate the news of Abraham to them. 69 He said to his father and to his nation: 'What do you worship' 70 They said: we worship idols, and we are unto them ever devoted 71 He said: Do they hear you when ye cry? 72 "Or do they benefit you or do they harm (you)?" 73 They said: "Nay, but we found our fathers doing thus (what we do)." 74 He said: See now that which ye worship, 75 you and your fathers, the elders? 76 "For they are enemies to me; not so the Lord and Cherisher of the Worlds; 77 who created me. It is He who guides me; 78 "Who gives me food and drink, 79 and Who, when I am ill, heals me; 80 And who will cause me to die and then bring me to life 81 And He Who, I long, shall forgive me my faults, on the Day of Requital. 82 My Lord! Vouchsafe me wisdom and unite me to the righteous. 83 and appoint me a tongue of truthfulness among the others. 84 And make me one of the inheritors of the Paradise of Delight; 85 and forgive my father for he is among those who strayed, 86 And abase me not on the day when they are raised, 87 the Day when wealth and sons will be of no avail, 88 except what is done in obedience to God with a submissive heart. 89 And the garden shall be brought near for those who guard (against evil), 90 and hell will be left open for the rebellious ones 91 "And it shall be said to them: 'Where are the (gods) ye worshipped- 92 "'Besides Allah? Can they help you or help themselves?' 93 And they will be pitched into it, they and the perverse 94 and so too the hosts of Iblis, all of them. 95 They shall say while they contend therein: 96 By Allah, of a truth we were in error manifest 97 When we equated you with the Lord of the worlds. 98 It is none but those steeped in guilt who led us into this error, 99 Now we have no intercessors 100 "'Nor a single friend to feel (for us). 101 O that we might return again, and be among the believers!' 102 Verily! In this is indeed a sign, yet most of them are not believers. 103 Verily your Lord is mighty and merciful. 104
