Recite unto them the story of Abraham: 69 When he said unto his father and his folk: What worship ye? 70 They said: We worship idols, and are ever devoted unto them. 71 He said: "Do they listen to you when ye call (on them)?" 72 “Or do they benefit you or harm you?” 73 They answered: "No; but we found our forefathers doing so." 74 He said, "Then do you see what you have been worshipping, 75 and what your grandfathers worshipped 76 "For they are enemies to me; not so the Lord and Cherisher of the Worlds; 77 Who hath created me, and He guideth me. 78 And He Who gives me to eat and gives me to drink: 79 And when I sicken, then He healeth me, 80 who makes me to die, then gives me life, 81 and He who will, I hope, forgive me my faults on the Day of the Judgement. 82 "O my Sustainer! Endow me with the ability to judge [between right and wrong,] and make me one with the righteous, 83 “And give me proper fame among the succeeding generations.” 84 Make me one of the inheritors of the Garden of Bliss 85 And forgive my father, for surely he is of those who have gone astray; 86 Degrade me not upon the day when they are raised up, 87 The day when wealth and sons avail not (any man) 88 Except him who brings to Allah a clean heart [clean from Shirk (polytheism) and Nifaq (hypocrisy)]. 89 And Paradise shall be brought forward for the godfearing, 90 and Hell advanced for the perverse. 91 It will be said to them: 'Where is that you worshipped, 92 Instead of Allah? Can they help you or help themselves? 93 Then will they be hurled therein, they and the seducers 94 and so too the hosts of Iblis, all of them. 95 They will say while contending therein, 96 "By Allah, we were surely in clear error 97 when we considered you equal to the Lord of the Universe. 98 It was but the guilty who misled us. 99 Now we have no intercessors 100 Nor any sincere friend. 101 Would that we had a second chance [in life,] so that we could be among the believers!" 102 In all this, behold, there is a message [unto men,] even though most of them will not believe [in it]. 103 Verily Your Lord is Immensely Mighty, Ever Compassionate. 104
