And rehearse to them (something of) Abraham's story. 69 [how it was] when he asked his father and his people, "What is it that you worship?" 70 They said, "We worship idols and will continue to cling to them." 71 He asked them, "Can the idols hear you when you pray to them 72 'Can they benefit you or harm you' 73 They answered: "No; but we found our forefathers doing so." 74 He said: Have you then considered what you have been worshipping: 75 you and your forefathers of yore? 76 Surely they are enemies to me, but not (so) the Lord of the worlds; 77 "Who created me, and it is He Who guides me; 78 And it is He who feeds me and gives me drink. 79 "And when I am ill, it is He Who cures me; 80 "And Who will cause me to die, and then will bring me to life (again); 81 "And who, I hope, will forgive me my faults on the day of Judgment. 82 O Lord, give me wisdom and admit me among the righteous, 83 And appoint me a tongue of truthfulness among the latter. 84 And place me among the inheritors of the Garden of Pleasure. 85 And forgive my father, verily he is of the erring; 86 Do not betray me 87 The Day whereon neither wealth nor sons will avail, 88 Except him who brings to Allah a clean heart [clean from Shirk (polytheism) and Nifaq (hypocrisy)]. 89 And the garden shall be brought near for those who guard (against evil), 90 And the (Hell) Fire will be placed in full view of the erring. 91 they will be asked, "Where are those whom you worshipped 92 Instead of Allah? Can they help you or help themselves? 93 The idol worshippers, the idols, the rebellious ones, 94 and the hosts of Iblis - all together. 95 They will dispute between themselves therein, and will say, 96 "By God, we were plainly in error 97 when we assigned to you a position equal to that of the Lord of the Universe. 98 No one but the sinners led us astray. 99 So we have no intercessors, 100 no caring friend. 101 But if we could but once return, we would be of the believers. 102 In all this, behold, there is a message [unto men,] even though most of them will not believe [in it]. 103 Verily Your Lord is Immensely Mighty, Ever Compassionate. 104
